Founded in 1955 as an auxiliary parish of St. Rochus Parish, Pius X Church played an important role in the Silsburg neighborhood for decades. In the early years, church services still took place in a hall of the nearby De Preter brewery, a place where the neighborhood came together to share faith and fellowship. In 1962, the parish got its own shelter: a new church building, built in sober brick architecture, with its characteristic flat roof and tight, rectangular shapes.
This building became a landmark in the neighborhood - a place where people met for rituals, celebrations and important moments in their lives. Pius X Church was an anchor for Silsburg, a house of prayer, but also of connection and togetherness.
Today, this familiar building is getting a new breath of life. With respect for its past and the generations that came together there, we are transforming the Pius X Church into a theater and cultural meeting place. Where once the silence of prayer prevailed, now music, theater and applause resound. Where walls witnessed rituals, stories are now told that touch, connect and inspire.
This repurposing is not a break, but a continuation of the original mission: to be a space where people come together and find meaning. Only the language is changing - from liturgy to art, from prayer to expression, from silence to dialogue.
Thus, in its new guise, the Pius X Church will become an icon of renewal and connectedness, a place where past and future meet. Here, PiXel On Stage is helping to write a new chapter in the neighborhood's history: a story in which culture and community play the leading roles.
